Sri was born in Philadelphia and raised in its suburbs. From an early age, he began training in the South Indian classical style of vocal music. As his skills developed, he began to explore a number of different genres ranging from R&B to pop to alternative rock, seeking to improve his versatility as an artist. One of his biggest sources of musical inspiration growing up was Boyz II Men. He admired their vocal skill and developed a dedication to becoming as good a singer as he could be. Later, he explored the work of other artists like Jason Mraz, Radiohead and John Legend for inspiration in the other aspects and styles of music.

He spent years performing at venues across the country and overseas as a member of various musical groups. Though his first work with Sektr Records was with an acoustic art rock group, the (vent) collective, he has recently focused his efforts on a project which returns to his R&B, pop roots.
